Fat Grafting
The specialty of facial plastic surgery has come a long way from the days of cutting away any loose skin and removing any excess fat, usually resulting in a stretched, hollow skeletal look. Today’s approach, endorsed by Dr. Perman, is to remove less skin and redrape and even augment the supporting fat to yield a more natural result. Dr. Perman’s mantra is “LESS IS MORE.”
To achieve that goal of redraping and/or augmenting volume, Dr. Perman will consider alloplastic fillers such a Juvederm type product, but if the volume deficiency is severe, the patient’s own fat may be used. With the use of blunt cannulas and negative pressure harvesting, transferred fat has a better chance to survive and can transform the appearance of a shrunken wrinkled raisin back into a plump grape.
